Job front is looking slim again - a really promising job in Edinburgh turned to shock-horror when they said they wouldn’t take me because they were looking for someone with experience and didn’t have the resources for training. It’s always the same story - no company is willing to give a break to someone recently graduated without XYZ experience.
It does pain me that all of the interviews I have had, have ended in: If you had some commercial experience.. Story of the year. I don’t want to waste my time idling around playing video-games so part of me is thinking of further education as a form of backup but I don’t really know what to study and even if I did, is it really a route I want to take? Working abroad is always an option but once again, is it something I really want to do?
I might start applying for jobs outside my sector, using my other skills such as Journalism and Graphical-Design but those industries are even more cut-throat than IT.

I’m sure you’ll have already looked into this, but temp jobs are another possible way into the job market. Grabbing a crap job in IT for 3 months could be enough to get a foot in the door.

Or you could get involved in a sourceforge project. There are a lot of projects with top programmers who just need someone else with CSS knowledge.
Check the wanted section in Sourceforge and you’ll find something.
I went on about an application I made for my phone in my interview, you could design something for your phone to check your WoW PVP rank or something similar

I sorta agree with Spanner.
I took a job for less money than I would have liked but it’s getting better. It’s experience and a foot in the door.
Further education is great but most when you are finished that you might still find yourself in the same place: a large set of skills and no experience.
Saying that you could do another year and become a teacher. Teach the children of Dundee the arts of stealth, marksmanship and chemistry. The next generation will need to know the correct Coke:Rat Poison ratio.

Thanks guys. I’ve now applied for lowlie jobs such as Tech support etc and hoping that will lead somewhere.
I like the idea of writing an application for something. Suppose that will keep me busy during the day.

Got to love competency questions on applications you can lose hours answering those bad boys.
Apply to Accenture or LloydsTSB your talking a whole day on that application.
TSB is great, from last years application form:
“Who do you admire most and how does that affect your application to Lloyds”
